French Drain - The Solution to Water

If you have water that runs to the
foundation of your home after a heavy rain,
a french drain is the solution. First rent a back hoe or have a trench
dug.

After the trench was dug, we gathered the large rocks &
dumped
them back into the trench to make a base for the gravel.

The trench is then filled with washed crushed stone. It
needs to be
washed so the water will run through it easily. A good tip when
your are ordering the rock is to order a couple of tons more than
you think you require. We ordered 7 tons but 10 tons would not
have been too much. You can always use any extra on the driveway.

When you have filled the trench with washed crushed rock,
the rest of the
driveway should be dressed with class A gravel. This grade packs down
well and doesn't get thrown by the snow blower after winter storms.
It is not necessary to have class A gravel rolled after application.
The traffic driving back and forth will pack it down.
It is a good idea to keep a little in reserve to fill any
potholes that appear after a few weeks of traffic.
