 This private ferry has plyed this route for over 100 years. The first ferryin 1885 was horse driven & was owned and piloted by Augustus Davis. The horse-driven ferry was used until 1916 when a new ferry equipped with a Fairbanks Morse gasoline engine was built. This same engine propelled the ferry until 1957 so the purchase was a good idea.  No government money is used to subsidize this ferry company. The McColgan family has operated the ferry since 1956.  People wishing to go from Quyon Québec to Fitzroy Harbour save a lot of time by taking this ferry.  There are 2 ferries that service this route. That shows how popular it is.
