The Wallis house was designed by two architects.
Robert Surtees designed this side of the building in the Queen Anne style.

The first part of the building was completed in 1873.
It was used as the Carlton County Protestant Hospital.
Wallis House, Ottawa
This part of the Wallis House was designed by Montreal Architect Alexander Hutchison in 1898.
He designed the east wing in the Tudor Revival style.
After the hospital it was used as a Roman Catholic Seminary.

This is the back side of the Wallis House.
In the second World War the building was used as the headquarters of the Women's Royal Canadian Naval Service.
It was chosen since its location was suitably distant from any ocean.
