France B&B
Lévignac de Guyenne
In 2003 we planned a trip to Aquitaine. Since we had toured Alsace in October and had such a lovely time watching the grape harvest and missing the crowds, we thought it would be the perfect time to visit the Southwestern part of France.

That year the area had one of the hottest summers on record and by the time autumn rolled around, all the grapes had been harvested. However Aquitaine has wonderful warm days and nights in October so we still enjoyed our travels.

While searching on the computer for places to stay we came upon a B&B run by Leif and Fiona Pedersen. Fiona is British and Leif is a Danish born Canadian. Although the tiny village of Lévignac de Guyenne in the Lot-et-Garonne area had few attractions, it was close enough to the area we were touring for us to stay a couple of nights. The fact that Leif had been a set designer gave us the clue that the B&B would be special.

How right we were. We had our choice of rooms and all four were all so outstanding it was difficult to make the decision. From the moment you enter their front hall, you know you are in for a feast for the eyes.

The large kitchen/eating area looks over the rear of the house, with a beautiful view of the Valley. A door opens onto the upper terrace of the garden where there is a small table and chairs to sit, sip some wine and enjoy the sunset.

Even the breakfasts have a touch of set design. The fruits and berries make a trail along the centre of the table, a wonderful experience. Some B&Bs do not supply the rooms with fresh towels every day. This one does.

It was fortunate that we arrived in October as La Maison de la Halle is available for rental as a house during the summer and at other times the house operates as a bed and breakfast. It would be prudent to fax ahead to make reservations.
