Halifax Town Clock
Prince Edward, Duke
of Kent,
arranged for a
turret clock to be
manufactured for the Halifax garrison before his return to England in
1800.
A three-tiered, irregular octagon tower atop a building of
classical Palladian proportions was erected on the glacis bordering
Barrack Street (Brunswick Street) to house the clock. The Town Clock
officially began keeping time
for the garrison on October 20, 1803 and
has served the residents of this seaport for over 200 years.
