Montreal Hotel Review

For Christmas 2004 we decided to spend
our holiday in Old Montreal. We had done
some investigating and had decided that
the package offered by Auberge du
Vieux Port sounded just what we were
looking for. As well as the hotel room,
we got breakfast every day, and evening
wine and cheese and a complete Christmas
dinner.

The room overlooked the St. Lawrence River
and was just the right size for a historic
building. There was a mini bar, slippers
and 2 thick terry bathrobes to wear.

Every morning we had a choice of wonderful
breakfasts, of any kind you could wish
with mounds of fresh croissants.

The evening glass of wine that was served
in their restaurant gave us a chance to
converse with other guests and was a lovely
break before getting ready for our evening meal.

But as nice as a hotel is, it is the staff that
makes your stay outstanding. From the
minute you enter the hotel, there is a
feeling of warmth that is most unusual.
Every member of the staff seems to feel
pride in their place of work and in Old
Montreal and seems genuinely concerned
that your vacation that you spend with
them will be a happy one.

The people on the front desk will help you
with suggestions of where to eat and where
to sight see. We noticed that the sidewalks
in Old Montreal in the winter are rather
treacherous since most businesses don't
bother to shovel the snow. Not so with
Auberge du Vieux Port. When I
mentioned the fact to the doorman who
was scraping the sidewalk, he said that
since they were the best hotel in Old Montreal
he felt that he should keep the sidewalk clean.
The wait staff in the restaurant seem to have
the same warmth and pride. If you go into
the lobby of the Auberge to read the guest
comment book, you will find it full of
praise for the staff. I cannot recommend this
hotel too highly.
